Help This Kid!

Big Sissy still can't think of a name for her Etsy shop. Can you help? Here are the ones she's considering:

Eat, Sleep, Paint
Daughter in Two Cultures
Different Like You
Kokoro Illustration
Kokoro Watercolor

(Kokoro is a Japanese word that's often translated as "heart" but it also incorporates the idea of one's spirit or soul--in other words, it's not entirely translatable)

She's been thinking about this for days now, and nothing really seems right. I suggested a couple that are in the running, but Ren has been wholly unhelpful. His only contribution has been to tell us that most of the ideas don't "sound right" (hibiki ga yokunai). Do you like one or more of these? Do you have some other ideas? Please leave your suggestions in the comments.

Oh, and she says she likes this picture better than the one I posted yesterday:

Which one do you like better? We may or may not have a friendly wager on this, and you may or may not be able to help us settle it. I like the one without the outlines, but, then again, she and I have never shared the same aesthetic.  You should see us trying to shop for clothes together!

And here are a couple of new ones (I'll encourage her to work on her photography skills so she doesn't keep getting the shadow of her camera into the shots).

You can see some of her other stuff in my post "Into the Light."

So, in summary, please help Big Sissy come up with a name for her Etsy shop. Maybe if you're lucky, she'll listen to you. Goodness knows she hardly ever listens to me! :) Oh, and if you like one of those "Different Like You" pictures better than the other, tell us so we can settle our bet!

I like the name Kokoro Illustration - it may "not sound right" but the feeling it evokes works with Big Sissy's work in my opinion. I am also with Big Sissy - I prefer the same picture she does for the "Different Like Me"

I generally like the outline look, but in this case, I think Big Sissy's right. It looks better without.

I like Eat, Sleep, Paint. I wish I could come up with something else, but that's the one I like the best.

Then you agree with me re. the picture. She likes the outlines, I don't. :)

Oops. I misread that.

I like the "Different Like You" with the outline. As for a name...you're right none of them really encompass it all. "Different Like You" is nice, but unless her whole shop is going to focus on Autism Awareness stuff, it may not be entirely appropriate. And Daughter in Two Cultures fits, but is it too closely associated with your blog, and therefore doesn't give her as much individuality as she would like for her shop? It's hard.

I like the picture without the outlines, and as for a name, I like "Eat, Sleep, Paint" a lot. Good luck to her, she's very talented!

Both paintings are lovely, but I prefer the definition that the outlines provide. I think that they help define the puzzle pieces as the focal point and move the canvas firmly into negative space. Whereas the the canvas is part of the focal point without the outlines. I think this will be especially true when the paintings are framed.

Eat. Sleep. Paint. gets my vote. It sounds like the ideal life to me and is not so specific that she can't branch out later. Also, most people will get the reference and it's a nice association.

I like the outlined puzzle pieces as a graphic element...kinda like a logo, but the other is more artsy and works better just aesthetically as a painting. I'm a graphic designer and artist and that's my two cents, but I won't bill you. :)

Thanks for your feedback (and to everyone else, too!). Two cents I can afford, but since the blog has been a money-losing endeavor so far, that's about all I can afford...

Oh I LOVE the Russian doll painting, I collect them (and more often other 'stuff'). I like the no lines picture, and agree those names aren't quite right... I like the look of the word Kokoro, maybe keep playing with it?

Sorry - no help on the name. But I like Sissy's one the most -- mainly because of the expression in the heart. It personalizes it more, I think. I'm neutral on the outlines.....

I like Eat. Sleep. Paint. the best. It's cute.

And, I like the picture without the outlines. As soon as she sets up shop, let us know so we can make purchases!

What about "Into the Light Illustrations"?

I like Korkoro Illustrations, myself. I think it sounds mature, and professional. Unless you know the meaning of Korkoro (which I never would have) it just sounds good. When you know the meaning, it sounds good AND makes you feel good.

Gotta say, I like the outlines. It just feels more complete to me.
